SOC 186 Week 1 Discussion:: Writing Development (Step 1)
Discussion Post, 2-3 paragraphs (about 150 – 300 words).
Original Post – Due by Day 3
Choose something that you would like to write about in society. You will use this topic throughout the course as the focus for four discussion posts over four weeks that you will complete. You will then combine those discussion posts into a final paper that you will submit in Week 5.
Some examples of topics could include some major event going on in society, the career path that you are considering, or a social issue that you are familiar with. If you are uncertain of your topic, do not worry, you will receive feedback from your professor in your week one posting to help you refine your topic. You are also encouraged to contact your professor via email early in the week to discuss possible topics if you are uncertain or have questions.
In your week one post, relate your topic to the field of sociology by connecting your chosen topic to a sociological perspective (Functionalism, Symbolic Interactionism, Conflict, or Feminism) as discussed in your textbook in Chapters 1 and 2.
Reference your textbook in your posting in APA format. The APA in-text reference for your textbook is; (Ferrante, 2016). The corresponding listing for your textbook that you should place at the bottom of your discussion posting or on the reference page of your final paper would look like this:
Ferrante, J. (2016). Seeing sociology: An introduction (3rd ed.). Cengage.
Peer Feedback – Due by Day 7
Respond to at least one of your peers (preferably a peer that no one else has responded to so that everyone may both give and receive peer feedback) with any ideas you have that will help them develop their topic towards a final paper at the end of the term. Be sure that your responses are substantive and constructive.
