Chapter 7: Depressive and Bipolar Disorders, and Suicide

Please complete the required readings first, then bring in information/research (at least 2 key terms/concepts) from the required readings to answer the questions below:

After reading Chapter 5, you learned about Depressive and Bipolar Disorders, and Suicide. Suicide is NOT itself considered a disorder, however the risk is significantly higher for people living with Depression and Bipolar Disorder. “Occasional feelings of sadness and euphoria are normal, but they can sometimes linger and get out of control.” (Kearny and Trull, 2018) Using the content from the required readings:

• List and describe two of the risk factors for Depressive and Bipolar Disorders, and Suicide. What is known about the link between these factors and Depressive and Bipolar Disorders, and Suicide?
• Discuss the brain changes, hormonal changes, and neurochemical elements related to Depressive and Bipolar Disorders. Where do we see these disorders represented in the brain and body?
• What are two of the pharmaceutical interventions associated with the treatment of Depressive and Bipolar Disorders? What is the name (and classification) of the intervention and how does it affect the brain?
