Labor unions date back to the eighteenth century and the European Industrial Revolution. During this time in the US, there was a huge surge of new workers — adults and children alike — into the manufacturing industry. Although a debate exists as to the benefit and fairness of unions, it’s undeniable that early trade unions played a critical role in gaining rights and fair working conditions for employees. These rights and their associated fundamental ideals became a part of American culture that prevails today.
After reading Chapter 12 (Links to an external site.) in our course text, please discuss your opinion in at least two paragraphs. In your response, please address the following:
- Do you agree with unionization within organizations (why or why not)?
- List the advantages and disadvantages of unions to the employee and the company.
