- Watch the speech “The Risks of Distracted Driving”
Think about when you could use a visual and why a visual at that time would make sense. Would a visual help the audience remember the speech? Would it clarify or dramatize the message? Would it enhance any persuasive appeal (aka ethos, logos, pathos)?
Initial Post:
First, find a visual that you think will enhance the speech.
- Great places to find pictures are from pexels.com (Links to an external site.) (a royalty & attribution free site…medium size files are typically large enough). Excel works wonders for Graphs, but is a bit more complicated if you have never been in there whereas (BEAM (Links to an external site.)) makes graphs for free (for the price of your email) as well as Canva.com (Links to an external site.). There’s also an incredibly simple option which is from the NCES (Links to an external site.).
Second, in your post make sure to discuss why your visual would help enhance the speech. Explain your visual and discuss why you chose this particular image.
Make sure to attach your found visual aid through the attachment option or through the “embed image” option found above the text box.
Responses:
For follow up discussions, let the original poster know if you agree or disagree with their visual suggestion and how it might be enhanced.
It is recommended in this course, that students construct their initial posts and responses using the Canvas video feature (or YouTube upload). Please make sure you speak clearly and have a well-formulated post or response before recording. It is NOT required that you post your initial response as a video, text submissions are acceptable. Replies to classmates can be done as text also.

Original posts are due by the 3rd day of the week and follow up responses are due by day 7 of the course week.

Discussions play an integral role in monitoring your course participation throughout the term. You should check back to the weekly discussions multiple times throughout the week to engage in the discussion with your professor and peers. Participation is only counted during the week in which this discussion is assigned. Be sure to appropriately cite any sources you use to support your responses with standard APA citations. Answer the prompt question(s) thoroughly, using at least 150-200 words, and respond to as many of your peers as possible. Note that responses to 2 of your peers are required for full credit. Be sure to answer any additional questions asked by your professor in the discussion threads. Your initial post is due by Day 3 of the current week, and follow up posts to your peers are due on Day 7!
