Description

COM 126 Week 1 Discussion: Discussion Board 1

Assignment Content

Welcome to the class!

Your first discussion post is a Self Introduction.  You can use your phone or your computer to record the message.  You can introduce yourself using some of the basics below.  While you can always just list these items and speak as quickly as possible, it would be far better if you take your time (about 1-3 minutes) and instead tell us “your story”.  Who are you?  What brings you to this page?  Try not to worry about the details too much (when you were born, where you were born, why you were born, etc.), instead focus on what you would like people to know about you and your journey.

To help, here are some ideas you should try and touch on:

  • Your name (and preferred name)
  • The program you’re majoring in
  • The career are you pursuing (and why)
  • Something about you that’s unique (perhaps you grew up on a frog farm, or you love hockey even though you live in Florida)
  • What are some of your skills?
  • What are some of your hobbies?

Submission Directions:

  • Submit a video introduction that’s 1-3 minutes in length.
  • Original posts are due by the 3rd day of the week and follow up responses are due by day 7 of the course week.
  • Submit this post using a media capture or upload option only.
    • Hit “Reply” to begin.
    • Use the “Record/Upload Media” button Media Upload Button 1.png
    • (Do not use the  “Attach” or “Insert/Edit Media” button) Insert Media Button.png
    • Once your video is uploaded, be sure to comment and say hello to at least 2 others in the course based on the rubric.

NOTE: Anytime you are submitting a video to a Canvas discussion board, you also have the option to submit via YouTube.  You should use a YouTube submission anytime your video is over a minute in length.  Here are the directions on how to upload a YouTube video to Canvas: How to Uploads Videos to Canvas using YouTube.

You can watch an entertaining Self Introduction below for a quick example.

Discussion Content for COM 126 Week 1 Discussion

Discussions play an integral role in monitoring your course participation throughout the term. You should check back to the weekly discussions multiple times throughout the week to engage in the discussion with your professor and peers. Participation is only counted during the week in which this discussion is assigned. Be sure to appropriately cite any sources you use to support your responses with standard APA citations. Answer the prompt question(s) thoroughly, using at least 150-200 words, and respond to as many of your peers as possible. Note that responses to 2 of your peers are required for full credit. Be sure to answer any additional questions asked by your professor in the discussion threads. Your initial post is due by Day 3 of the current week, and follow up posts to your peers are due on Day 7!
