While we are studying pure forms so that insights are clearer, in practice, hybrid systems exist. We are in a mass-customization environment these days. The coke cans that have individuals names on them are a good example of that. The environment we just moved past was mass-production. Process accounting works well in that environment, but job-costing by itself does not work as well in the realm of mass-customization. As a result, we will see process accounting before customization occurs, and job costing once customization begins. In large part, we have only had these tools available as technology has improved. Looking at the rapid changes brought through cellular and WiFi transmissions, it is logical to believe we will continue to improve in our ability to understand costs?

• From this perspective, are we done creating methods of cost analysis? In other words, if you learn everything in this course, will that be enough five years from now?
